Most likely they are beat reporters in or around Vancouver if I were to guess.

People have biases. There were people who actually left Dustin Wolf COMPLETELY off their ballots for the calder. I mean really?? None of this awards voting is ever going to be completely idiot proof.

I still maintain they need to have another award for defensive centric guys who don’t put up enough offensive numbers to be considered for the Norris. Like Slavin, Chris Tanev, etc.

Also, based on the math, it can be inferred (accurately or not) that those two Hughes voters had Cale as their 3rd place, while the 13 that gave Werenski first place votes all had Cale 2nd. It’s probably not the case, but I can just picture these two Vancouver-based homer journalists gathering in a corner being like, “This’ll show ’em!” 😉
