SHU-Racing class 2 management is a team of 4 final year project level students (3rd year) who, working together with the class 1 team and a small group of first and second year’s, develop new ideas for future SHU-R cars. The idea of introducing a class 2 team into SHU-R this year stems from the large increase of student interest in the team and to introduce first and second years to the team at a design level.
The aim for the management team would be to follow their ideas and concepts through to class 1 the following year where they will be a part of the MEng management team. This allows for a 2 year design, refine and build process which will have a greater benefit for the team.
SHU-R have significantly increased sponsorship this year with more technical support, as well as headline and supporting sponsors in Fusion Group and Carbolite Gero respectively.
Final year project ideas currently being developed are the introduction of a composite sandwich panel rear packaging which has the capacity to mount the differential (and possibly rear suspension package) from, a development of a one-of-a-kind T2R Torsen differential and a ongoing aerodynamic package. A look into the use of a 428 motorcycle chain and final drive set-up is also in development as a potential weight saving opportunity.
