For the 2016 Formula Student season Team SURTES has mainly been focusing on implementing our first ever electric Power-train. With this being our first year running an electric vehicle, the rest of the car was designed with simplicity in mind whilst continuing to improve upon previous years designs. The use of IPG Carmaker, Lotus Suspension Analysis and Optimum Tire has allowed us to continue to use to 10” wheels this year, which saves weight and allows us to tweak the suspension geometry for a much better performing car.
Generous sponsorship from BRP Composites has allowed us to build and implement our first ever aerodynamic package and custom made carbon fibre steering wheel. We would also like to particularly thank our sponsors dSPACE who have supplied us with our ECU, allowing us to not only control our motor and inverter but run extensive testing on the motor prior to installation into the car. We would also like to thank RS Components for their kind donation of various electronic components throughout the year. Finally, we would like to thank our fantastic workshop staff for all their help with manufacturing of the car, without them, this project would not have been successful.
