Impressive to be so forthcoming about his issues and seek out the help he needs. Wishing him the best!

As somebody who has had his own problems with alcohol I can attest to the fact that it can ruin your life. And I agree Evan, shows a lot that he was so transparent when he didn’t have to be at all.

From the hockey side of things, I think the Avs should & I’m sure will put him on LTIR. His cap hit is too high not to. I think you just operate under the assumption that he won’t be back this season. And if he does come back you cross that bridge (from a cap perspective) when you get there.

Great idea. What do they do in say 2 months when he is cleared by the doctors in the program to resume playing and his full cap hit comes back on to the books?

If he goes on LTIR. Do you think avs will trade for top 6 forward or a dmen.

Thanks, I read the 10/24 rule, just wasn’t sure if that had to be injury related.

If he is expected to miss 10 games/24 days, they can put him on LTIR, according to Cap Friendly.

Realizing nobody has any idea how long it will take him to recover.

Come back better than ever. Takes a great human to admit they need help. Hope the NHLPA can get him whatever he needs to get well.

I’m not a health expert, but I think it’s good news to know that it wouldn’t be related to a concussion. We know that a concussion can have irreversible effects and end hockey players’ careers. I am relieved to know that Girard appears to be in good hands. Knowing his strength of character, I have no doubt that Girard will come back in great force. Can’t wait to see him again!
