Copp and Compher are paid about the same. As an Avs fan since day 1 when I lived in Colorado now retired in Michigan, I saw most of the Red Wings games on TV last season. Copp was definitely a better player than Compher last season. Copp had the same points but played in 20 less games. Copp has been over 50% on faceoffs the last two seasons while Compher hovers around 45%. Copp was +4, Compher was -7. Copp’s Corsi and Fenwick possession numbers were better. From the eyeball test to the analytical numbers, Copp is a better player than Compher right now. The Red Wings would be happy to move from Compher. Not so sure they feel the same way about Copp.

Otherwise, I’m fine with any of these players except Copp. I thinks he’s overpaid.

To be honest I haven’t really followed ERod’s career outside of the time he was with the Avs where he played wing. I was a fan so if you say he can play center he’d be a great fit for lots of reasons. I just want the Avs to put someone there who is actually a center. Acquiring players to play center who haven’t played the position in years, or at junior levels, hasn’t been optimal. Trenin, Kelly and Colton are recent prime examples

Panthers are $2.9m over the cap, and Erod has 2 yrs remaining at $3m. Avs could get him for a midround pick so the Panthers become cap compliant. He’s become a playoff gamer that has added physicality to his game – 100+ more hits the past 2 regular seasons than Burns. He also produces better in the playoffs – 15 pts and some big goals in each yr of the Panthers 2 Cups. He plays center or wing, has become a true 2-way player, can play on any line when injuries occur, though he’s best in a mid 6 role. He could absolutely fill the 3C role and replace Nelson if he shits the bed. He’s a great teammate, familiar w the room, and the Bednar systems.Make it so Avs mgt!

Drury can probably handle the position, but he needs to be paired with offensive minded wingers, who are also responsible defensively. We have seen since the cup year what a 3rd line made up of 4th liners looks like. If they cannot provide secondary scoring, then the team has to rely on the top 1 or 2 lines for all the offense. One of the issues of Drury being the 3C is could he be the 2C in case of injury? I would prefer he stay at the 4C, but if he moved, then the team would need a 4C. Does the team wait to see if Bardakov can do it?

Guys like Pinto, Mercer, McLeod, Zacha, and McTavish are the ideal choices, but most likely will never happen. The Avs just do not seem to have the assets to make those trades. I do not see O’Reilly being moved, but he would be a great choice, just as Compher would be. Backlund could be okay for one year, but at a discount. Pageau would be another good center, but again at a discount. I think Copp is injured too much, unless it was a big discount.

A name not mentioned often is Kuznetsov. I am not sure the Avs are thinking of him or if he has any game left in him, but he may be an option if the price is right. Could he be any worse than Toews?

Even with the cap going up, I think paying a 3C $5 per is insane. If New York were willing to retain 25%, I think Pageau would be a great addition and could potentially solve the 3C issue for at least the next few years. Mercer and Pinto aren’t going anywhere, and if they were, I’m not sure the Avs have the assets it would take to get them. Lastly, I understand that hockey is a business, but I also think that when a player burns bridges in the way that O’Reilly did, they aren’t coming back. Ever.

Mercer and Pinto, yes if we can find the right package to get them. Copp, maybe, but I would honestly rather have Compher. The others, I’m tempted to say no.
