I’m “all in” on Lindgren. Tough as nails and a smart, physical defenseman that just does his job night in and night out without any drama. Another great move by CMac.

I wonder if Aarif could write an article on this? Namely, the growth of Sam Malinski. You don’t see it that often in the NHL. Sam’s play from last year to this year is totally different. He’s much more confident with the puck. He’s making good decisions – – when to step up and support the play and when to skate back and defend. And he’s an excellent skater who is also learning how to avoid big hits while getting the puck out of danger. Plus, he has an above average shot and can find the open man in the attack zone. A real pleasant surprise this year for the Avalanche.

Malinski shook off Calvin de Haan and has been a better player since, Sam has been dragging around AHL level talent most of the season. Now he can shine.

And when it wasn’t them, it was typically the Kiviranta – Coyle – Colton line, though they saw the majority of shifts against the Benn – Johnston – Marchment line. As you said, that is some awesome depth work right there, to trust those bottom six guys out there against the top six of Dallas! Obviously on the road, it won’t be as easy to counter those lines without the last change, but I think the top six is also capable of stopping Dallas’s top six as well. It’s just a luxury that they have the opportunity to feast on the Stars’ bottom six.

Also, can we officially say that Malinski has shaken off whatever he was dealing with earlier in the season and is approaching “stud” status? He was our best non-Makar, non-Toews defenseman this game – and it was a game were the d-corps in general played really well.

Lastly, I will happily give Wedgewood his flowers. Holy crap, was he great today – and against Calgary in the last game as well. I wasn’t sure about the trade for him when it happened, but I’m over here happily eating my crow for doubting him. As I said after last game, he might be the best non-tandem backup goalie in the league – in some order along with Lindgren in Washington, Fleury in Minnesota, Quick in New York, and Lankinen in Vancouver (when Demko is healthy enough to be their #1).

That puck leaves the zone without the zebra getting in the way.

Also, in OT, Cale doesn’t score that goal without Nelson’s work on the dot. Winning a faceoff at a critical moment was of the utmost importance.
