I used to watch the Rockies the same way. Radio announcers are more descriptive and to me more interesting.

When will the Avs revert to “slow, deliberate, non-physical and counting to three Mississippi before getting rid of the puck?” Quoting you Rica of course!

A “stiffy” for Makar and a lump of coal for Mac. Happy Holidays everyone!

For the first time, the Avs played end to end hockey all three periods while being physical with an “in your face – on the puck” style. Checking in all three zones. Quick outlet passes and faster at getting the puck out of danger while making the safe play up the wall. New Jersey looked like the Avs have been this season – – slow, deliberate, non-physical and counting to three Mississippi before getting rid of the puck.

Back to the “Diamond Defense” on the PK and not the passive box. The goalie can see better and not have to deal with a screen in the front of the mosh pit around the goaltender. A clear example was one player point blank on to Wedgie as he made the save.

You know, Keaton Middleton can fumble and stumble with the puck many times, but he doesn’t take sh!t from anybody. Very physical player on a team sorely needing players like him. I’ve always been a fan of Colton. His energy is contagious. For once, it would be great to have a fully healthy team with Wood, Manson and Drouin back. Maybe in time but this was a game to savor for the Avs. And the recipe to win.

It might wear him down but the learning will be good for him. Such an easy life playing only offense. Avs need far more from $13MM. The falloff from the lobbied Hart year proves alot…

Amazing is Makar. Plays PK, PP, and the best offensive defenseman in the NHL. He can take over games. MacTO cannot!

Knowing the Avs, I’d put money on them trying to acquire a 3C and that 2025 2nd they got from NYR at the draft to move out of the 1st will almost certainly be used to make that happen. That will, of course, be at least partially dependent on if they believe the goaltending situation has been stabilized so hopefully they can count on decent play from the net nine out of ten games.

As for Mitts, he has to play with players like Nuke and Colton to be effective; he’s a playmaker which means he needs trigger men to play with. Colton and Nuke fit that bill quite nicely. I would ask what happens when Drouin returns but we all know there will be more injuries so the situation will resolve itself.

Next up: they’ve got to get find some consistency. They must build off these wins and turn it into a string of good play, especially against not-so-good teams. 8 of their next 11 games are against teams out of a playoff spot (although the Pens have been playing better lately); they really need to win at least 6 of those and show out well against Vancouver and Winnipeg, the latter of which has been slumping a bit lately. This is the time to begin turning the corner and solidify their playoff positioning before the Four Nations break.

Nice to see I was right! However, I think our d-pairings could still be unlocked further if the coaches commit to matching up Girard and Makar, and Toews and Malinski. I think those combos could be really special. Though I do get that there’s some comfort in the Toews – Makar pairing that was worked since the latter joined the league.

Best way to watch from home.
