Avalanche Offseason
Peter Forsberg is in Town! — Avalanche Prepare for Alumni Game at Magness Arena

With the Alumni game between the Avalanche and the DU Pioneers at Magness Arena just days away, several legends are back in town.
None bigger than Peter Forsberg.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion, Olympic gold medalist, 2003 Hart Trophy winner, and Hall of Famer is going to take the ice on Sunday, lining up alongside Milan Hejduk and Steven Reinprecht for the Avs’ alumni team.
Other participants include Joe Sakic, Adam Foote, John-Michael Liles, Darren Helm, Kyle Quincey, Tyson Barrie, Mark Rycroft, and Troy Terry.
The event kicks off at 3 p.m. with a pre-game festival outside the arena, followed by a 5 p.m. scheduled puck drop.
My colleague Colleen Flynn and I will both be there covering the event. I’ll admit, it’s nice to have some bit of hockey in August.

Forever the Avs GOAT. If not for his foot issues, he would have been top 5 all time with very little doubt. If anyone tries to say Mackinnon, remember this, Forsberg played 100% of the ice, 100% of the time.
MacKinnon is behind Forsberg, Sakic & Roy atleast, on the Avs mount Rushmore.
Forsberg was a beast, his passing & playmaking was out of this world. Once he got cycling, there was no knocking him off the puck.
Foppa is my all time favorite Av! His passing ability was second to none, his physical style of play for a European at that time was exciting to watch (unless you were on the end of his hits). The puck was like a magnet on his stick and when the goalie thought he would pass he could bury the puck in the net. 2 of my favorite memories were being in McNichols for game 2 of the finals in 96 vs Florida when Foppa got his natural hat trick in the first period, I thought the roof was going to… Read more »
Peter the Great. Peter the Great! Peter! The! Great!
How does one get tickets for said event?
Roy being traded to the Avs made me shift my allegiance at a very young age from Montreal to Col.
Forsberg immediately became my favorite player. I forced my father to buy me his stick when I played high school hockey. I even tried the move he used to win the gold in 94 in a shootout! It didn’t go well lol.
Very cool! Foppa in his prime was the best player in the NHL, and my all-time favorite Av from the time the Nordiques moved here. He had it all, including physicality and the master of the reverse hit. His foot and ankle injuries/issues were traumatic and it’s difficult to imagine the pain he suffered through after the orthopods experimented on him.
There was a 2 – 3 year window when he really was almost unanimously considered thr best 200 ft player in the world. I know many considered Jagr to be #1 in the mid to late 90’s. But Forsberg was just the way more complete player.
Apparently my initial comment on here was a little too sensitive for someone. Haha.
LEGEND
Show me someone stronger on the puck.
