He’s another one of these analytics dorks (not mentioning any other names). That has zero clue how to make a hockey team better. All he did in Toronto was hand out bad contracts. And in Pittsburgh it’s been even worse. Let’s trade for a 30 plus year old Erik Karlsson. And his bloated contract. And we’ll ship out Guentzel? And get pennies on the dollar for him.

Carolina is another example of an analytics capologist guy taking over & being completely in over his head. How do you trade for Mikko & not ask the Avs permission to talk to him before consumatimg the trade to gauge where he’s at with re – signing, testing the market, etc? It’s horrendous asset management. They did the same thing last year with Guentzel. But gave up far less.

I can’t stress enough to these teams don’t hire these guys who have a limited hockey background. Or put a huge emphasis on metrics & stupid possession numbers. The Avs are a great puck possession team. How’s that working out? Skill, talent & having guys with high hockey IQ win in this league. You need good talent evaluators at the top. Not guys who are good with spreadsheets (see Chris McFarland).
