Maybe works, maybe doesn’t, but he’d fit in the cap as a rental and Drouin-MacKinnon-Rantanen, Lehkonen-Necas-Nichuskin would be as good as any two lines in the Cup chase.

If I were the Panthers watching them play on the same line together during the 4 nations. I’d be telling Matthew to start the recruiting process.

Or he looked at all the young talent and figured he could stick around long enough to help them win a Cup and top off his career.

I bet he wouldn’t pass up playing with his brother.

Yeah, I don’t see it myself (Tkachuk staying). Unless the Sens develop into a powerhouse over the next few years which is highly unlikely. I’m sure he wants to be in an American market. And play meaningful hockey. The 4 nations most definitely didn’t help Ottawa’s prospects lol.

I’m aware. Hence why I referenced him being French Canadian. He’s never won a cup. Clearly his priorities lye elsewhere. Otherwise he would have signed elsewhere.

We want pro athletes to be different than us and always chasing the top prize but they’re really just like us. If you’re single you’re eager to climb the career ladder and relocate if necessary but then life happens. Sometimes you just choose to do the best job you can in a place that doesn’t have as many opportunities, but it’s best for your family or for other personal reasons. The Rangers are better than the Sens but they’re not winning a cup. JT Miller chose NY for his own reasons. Agreed that the Sens need to show Tkachuk that he should stay in Ottawa. Good luck with that…

Giroux lived in Ottawa during the offseason while at Philly. Going home was his primary choice when he got traded.

Despite the whole French Canadian thing. They were a bottom feeder when he signed there. And have only now started to get better.

I don’t think Ottawa is going to deal him. Too much riding on the finish to the season for them. If they did lose him in free agency I don’t think it would be the end of the world. I think they are more worried about finally getting back to the postseason. Every move they make should be first & foremost about convincing Brady Tkachuk to want to stay there long term. Trading Giroux in the thick of a playoff race would be horrible messaging.
