I evaluate a coach for his work in the playoffs as well. I hope MacFarland does the same.

My goodness, you sound like Bednar has been the bridesmaid every year. They won the Stanley Cup just 3 years ago! There’s a reason why few teams repeat – it’s really hard to do. I’m not saying Bednar is a HoF coach, but he started the year with a roster that was loaded with AHL players. To come out of the first third of the season and still be competitive in the standings was a heck of a job this year

But what should we expect the players and McFarland to respond to a few days before the start of the playoffs? In the past, these beautiful words have often translated into the kiss of death. Even if there were many injuries, they were not impact players. Mackinnon and Makar played almost every game. The other teams had much more serious injuries (Heiskanen, Jack Hughes, Tkatchuk, Matthews, Ovechkin, etc.). When a coach has the best forward and defenseman in the NHL, he has a legitimate chance to win the game every night. Before the season, all the experts predicted a ranking similar to the one obtained by the Avalanche. No surprises. Bednar did the job during the season but will he do the job during the playoffs? With the playoff results obtained by Bednar since he has been in charge, Pierre Lacroix would have fired him at least 3 times. At some point, patience has limits and you need results.
