If you think about it, no. A hot goalie is one person for a single position. There’s not one other position without multiple players. The goalie can steal a game individually.

All good points.

Aarif never really had a season prediction article (not criticizing just stating) and so in a random article before the season started, considering the injuries at that time, I wrote something like that I envisioned the Avs having their first mediocre season in a while, but my hope was that this was the year they snuck in as a 4-7 seed but entered the playoffs playing their best hockey and getting the cup again.

I bring that up, because that is how I felt and although I am predictably critical of them, I am not totally surprised with where they are at. Now, did I think they would only be 17-15 at this point in the season and trading away both goalies? No. Did I envision the Mild and Winnipeg come out swinging? No. Right now, I hope they can just get into the playoffs! A team that cannot win at home has no business making the playoffs.

Hopefully in a month these concerns are gone.

I agree with everything you said. But let’s see how it shakes out with Double Wood in goal and, hopefully, the return of Drouin, Manson & Wood 3. We should know more about Landeskog’s condition in the upcoming months and whether this year is another scratch year. And if it is, something has to give. You can’t have a guy miss two seasons in a row with little prospects of coming back. I imagine Landy will have to make that decision but the entire situation is putting a real crimp in the cap management and any long term decisions going forward.

I’m happy for Kovalenko as the Avs had to give up something to get something. Kovy is also injury prone so that’s a risk if you ask me. If Double Wood can solve the long term (mid term?) goaltending problems, that will go a long way towards helping to solidify the roster.

The Avs are now 7-8 at home and only 17-15. All on the same night that Edmonton thrashed the Mild on the road.

Are not MacTO, MiAkko, et al supposed to be able to beat a ‘hot’ goalie?

Yep, which is why they fail despite the alleged talent in the playoffs. Dead since 2022. Stars fail when the D tightenens and they have no amswer!

Please, I wish I could take the workday off after a business trip and be ineffective though in the office!
