I’d be happy with either Gourde or ROR. I’m honestly not too concerned if his game were to fall off a cliff at some point over the next two years. Because I don’t think he’s going to be asked to be much more than a 3C here. And with the cap going up year over year. And his cap hit being relatively low for a guy who is currently still producing like a 2C. If they have to move on from him, it’s very doable. Not ideal, but not a disaster.

If we get past the trade deadline, Rants will hold all the cards. If the Avs refuse to pay his #, he will walk for nothing. Then the Avs have to try and replace him with free agents. If we trade him after the season, the return is likely to be way less because any team has to factor in the risk of not being able to sign him. The best return comes at the deadline. I honestly believe the Avs are going to wait, then pay out 14+. I also believe that is the worst course of action for the future, but oh well.

You are correct but it’s also intriguing.

But someone on puckpedia suggest rantenen with an extension trade should look like the tkachuk trade.

You really think nucks give up hoglander EP40 hronek and a 1st.

Avs have until June 30th before he goes to free agency. I know Rantanen has been a lightning rod to some but got to believe they’re going to do everything they can to re-sign him since they know his consistent production will be hard to replace even with 2 players. Also, availability can be a player’s best asset and Rantanen has been very durable. The rumors you’re reading are just speculation written by those with pressure to create content

What compensation you think rantenen could fetch.

Here is a blockbuster swap Colorado and Vancouver could consider.

Colorado receives: Elias Pettersson, Nils Hoglander, future mid-round draft pick (4th round)

Vancouver receives: Mikko Rantanen (Extension included)

This is what i read, do you think the avs would do this if they can’t come to a contract agreement.

I’ve been seeing alot ot rantenen trade rumors

I agree Gourde would be the best option as a 3C, but he will be one of the most sought after centers and will not be cheap. Can the Avs afford what it will cost to get him is the question? I think O’Reilly could be a good 3C for the Avs, but does O’Reilly think that and is NSH really willing to trade him? The Avs cannot always get their top choices of trades, so sometimes it is who is left. Whoever the Avs get, I think it needs to be someone who adds scoring depth to the 3rd line, not just more grinders.

I seem to be in the minority here, but he’ll be 36 when is contract is finished. Father time is undefeated. It’s 1 thing that the Avs will have a bunch of guys that age later on, but he could be a shell of himself when the Avs are supposedly still in their window. Gourdi is 33 now but he’s on an expiring deal so he’d be a rental. With his prorated salary at the deadline you could fit him now without future risk

The normal excuse for players is that they cannot skate well enough and fast enough to be an Av. Kadri was not a fast skater, but was a great 2C. Kadri is in the bottom 50% of skating speed, but how many people would still take him back? There are very few players with speed, size, toughness, and scoring ability. The Avs have passed on way too many guys over the years who have done extremely well, just because of their skating speed. If the Avs can get Yanni Gourde to be the 3C, should they pass because he is also in the bottom 50% of speed? BTW, O’Reilly’s cap hit is 667K less than Gourde’s. Would O’Reilly be a welcome addition as a 3C? O’Reilly has 12G/13A/25PTS, which would make him the Avs 5th leading scorer.
