Try that excuse with your boss the next time you have a task or project to complete and failed. Let me know how that works for you. Like in football, you don’t get paid for yardage gained. Only for scoring. As far as I’m concerned, MacFarland has whiffed on way too many acquisitions that haven’t paid dividends. I will give credit on the Mittelstadt deal (superb long term acquisition) and making the best of a bad decision in jettisoning Johansen but it was costly – – losing a 1st round pick. Then, the continual pick up of less than mediocre players and Evan’s favorite “puck moving defensemen” that can’t play a lick in the NHL. They still haven’t got the message that going small and less physical means no Stanley Cup.

Colton will be demoted as soon as Lehkonen and the Chu-Chu Wreck return to the line-up. Bednar would have it no other way.

True, but Lehkonen is good enough defensively, I would feel comfortable enough with that group. I know it probably won’t happen, bit I just feel those two PP units would best use our personnel.

As nice as that second pp unit looks, you want to have two d-men on your second unit, as they are on the ice when the player comes out of the box.

But i remember Nemeths 2nd stint with us,& he was an abject disaster. In fact in that Vegas series-he was 1 of THE KNIGHTS best players. Then Chris Drury made 1 of the few big mistakes he’s made a Rangers gm-giving that dude a 3 yr contract-which people like me predicted he’d regret.Sure enough next playoffs-while the AVS were winning the Cup…Nemeths became absolutely unplayable for the Rangers also,& was soon scratched on their way to the ECFs. But we get your point-so far,so good for Ludwig

He’s been perfect in that bumper spot, because he’s not afraid to just throw a shot at the net from there. As good as Drouin is, he is pretty much always looking to pass, and the top unit needs a shooter in there to unlock it. When everyone is healthy, I think the PP units should be: Colton (bumper), Makar (point), MacKinnon (left), Nichushkin (net), and Rantanen (right) on unit one; Drouin (right), Landeskog (net), Lehkonen (bumper), Malinski (point), and Mittelstadt (left) on unit two.

I think Colton could also stay in the top six as a wing if the team commits to having Ritchie at 3C. However, the missing piece would be 4C with everyone back, unless one of Lehkonen, O’Connor, or Wood could play it. Lines could be Drouin – MacKinnon – Nichushkin, Colton – Mittelstadt – Rantanen, Landeskog – Ritchie – Kovalenko, and Lehkonen – O’Connor – Wood. That right there is a crazy deep team, but would require OC to learn center pretty quickly. Of course, if Landeskog is unable to come back, that would actually make it a bit easier by putting Lehkonen on the 3rd line and keeping Kelly or Ivan as the 4C. But I think we all would like Gabe back in the lineup.

For the d-pairings, I’d like to see if we have something with the Girard – Makar combo even when Toews comes back. Toews and Malinski were dynamite together in the preseason, and I think there could be something there. Then Ludvig and Manson have been awesome together and should stay with each other moving forward.

At least mac tried. They have no defensive prospects. They have no cap space. If landy stayed on ltir all year they couldve used his cap space to get better 6th and 7th dmen and a 4th line center. But landy is handcuffing this team.

That guy had maybe one decent year and then he played badly. Kylington can’t play period. Another poor acquisition by MacFarland. de Haan & Brannstrom are not much behind Kylington. A series of bad moves by MacFarland that is becoming his signature trait, year after year.

Kelly is doing an adequate job defensively being put in as a center, but he was never an offensive juggernaut to begin with. We have seen that the bottom 6 just isn’t contributing much offensively. If the Avs can get another 3C, actually anyone who is an actual center, then keeping Colton in the top 6 is great.

One thing I would keep when Lehkonen and Drouin return, is to have Colton stay on the PP. I would much rather have him there than Lehkonen. Lehkonen can be on PP2 and the PK. He is too valuable to have him take a beating being in front of the net. When Nichushkin returns, a top PP of MacKinnon-Rantanen-Nichushkin-Colton-Makar would be great.

Ludvig has been good. I agree that he should stay on the 3rd pair and de Haan should be the 7th d-man. Maybe the Avs can trade Kylington for a bottom 6 center.
