The team’s main objectives are innovation and learning experience which will inspire future engineers to take part in Formula Student.
The UoNRT is made up of 26 Mechanical and Electrical Engineers as well as six Business and Marketing students. The engineering team has seven groups: Electrical, Suspensions, Controls, Aerodynamics, Wheels and Brakes, Powertrain, and Cooling. This is the first time the team has been involved in Formula Student. The design choices were to make the car robust and efficient. They have found this has been a great challenge, made possible by endless amount of work and research of past Formula Student events. For the 2017 Formula Student competition, the UoNRT has decided to design and manufacture the UK’s first 4 wheel drive electric Formula Student car. The one year time period to achieve this has made the last months particularly tough for the team. The UoNRT Faculty Adviser has organised logistics for the car and secured sponsors such as Parker Racing, Wurth Elektronik, Verus Precision Ltd, Aegis Engineering, Charnwood Fasteners and Gemini Gears to name a few.
