The University of Huddersfield have been involved in FSUK since 1999, having initially only entered as a Class 2 project. The team were fortunate enough to win this competition outright in their first year and therefore the University has fielded a Class 1 entry ever since. HARE-16 will rather appropriately be the 16th car built by the team and represents many years of development and team growth. This year, we have chosen to refine the concept set out in 2012 whereby a drastic change from the 4 cylinder CBR engine to the lighter KTM single cylinder was selected. The main emphasis ever since has been to minimize weight wherever possible and this has seen the team make extensive use of composite materials, as well as develop clever and unique ways in which to package our designs. Last year this was recognized with the award of “Best Installation of an IC engine” by Mercedes AMG HPP, a fantastic achievement from a relatively small team and one of which we are particularly proud of! This year will see a refinement of this design, with great emphasis put on reliability in the dynamic events alongside improved suspension geometry, electronics and drive-ability.
