Team Profile

Formula Student Northampton Racing (FSN Racing) is a brand new team to the Formula Student Competition in 2014. This is the University of Northamptons first Class 1 entry. The team comprises of mostly part time HNC and BSc students and is been built at and in partnership with the newly built UTC at Silverstone. 90% of the team have little to no experience of cars or motorsport and have used this first year to familiarize themselves with the areas and systems of cars to create a foundation for 2015. As a result the car has been designed as test bed for the 2nd evolution of the car as it features a raised nose similar to mid 90’s onwards Formula 1 cars. This allows the air to flow in a more controlled manner around the car, for both aerodynamic and heat management purposes.
The goals of the 2014 team are use the first year to gather experience for 2015 and to score points in each area of the competition.
To collect as much data as possible about the car so that simple wings and ground effect can be utilized in 2015 with more efficient class engine tailored to the FS competition.

Additional information
The teams first ever entry to Class 1.

The early days of the build were done at the Team Principals garage while the Silverstone UTC workshops were completed resulting in Glen Adams wife Joanna having their first baby Alexander whilst he and the team were completing the SES and a photo shoot for a sponsors cheque presentation in the garage next door.

The team is working with the IMechE on a pilot scheme to use scholars as team suppliers – hence the partnership with the UTC.

The team has been followed closely by BBC Radio Northampton.
