There was a 2 – 3 year window when he really was almost unanimously considered thr best 200 ft player in the world. I know many considered Jagr to be #1 in the mid to late 90’s. But Forsberg was just the way more complete player.

Foppa in his prime was the best player in the NHL, and my all-time favorite Av from the time the Nordiques moved here. He had it all, including physicality and the master of the reverse hit. His foot and ankle injuries/issues were traumatic and it’s difficult to imagine the pain he suffered through after the orthopods experimented on him.

Forsberg immediately became my favorite player. I forced my father to buy me his stick when I played high school hockey. I even tried the move he used to win the gold in 94 in a shootout! It didn’t go well lol.

Foppa is my all time favorite Av! His passing ability was second to none, his physical style of play for a European at that time was exciting to watch (unless you were on the end of his hits). The puck was like a magnet on his stick and when the goalie thought he would pass he could bury the puck in the net. 2 of my favorite memories were being in McNichols for game 2 of the finals in 96 vs Florida when Foppa got his natural hat trick in the first period, I thought the roof was going to come off at Big Mac afterwards! The second was after the 96 Stanley Cup parade at the Chop House and Foppa came outside to mingle with the fans that were there, I told Foppa he was the best player in the world to which he replied one day I would like to be to which I replied back bullshit Forberg you’re the best in the world now! He promptly put me in a head lock and gave me noggies. Always great to see him back in the Mile High City.

Forsberg was a beast, his passing & playmaking was out of this world. Once he got cycling, there was no knocking him off the puck.
