Team Profile
City Racing has embarked on a new direction for 2012 with its latest racer the CR12. We have refreshed our approach because the last few cars failed to live up to our expectations. This year the team comprises of new students all committed to working hard in order to achieve a new car from a blank sheet. We have adopted a new design ethos which prioritises reliability and cost effectiveness keeping the design simple and related to the aim of the competition; producing a car suitable for the amateur weekend racer.
The team is broken down into five subgroups; chassis, suspension, ergonomics, engine and drivetrain. It was the responsibility of each group to develop its own ideas whilst taking into consideration potential design impacts on other subgroups. The chassis and suspension have been carefully thought through allowing ease of serviceability and set-up. Dynamometer testing of the Yamaha engine has resulted in mapping adjustments, including fuel injection and ignition timing all resulting in a smoother running engine with increased fuel economy.
The goal this year is to gain valuable experience, learn and have fun whilst laying down the foundations for success with future generations of City racers.
City Racing’s latest racer the CR12 is a huge improvement over its predecessor. The car is entirely new with no carry over components as is the personnel. We have adopted a new design ethos which prioritises reliability, simplicity and cost effectiveness. The chassis has been designed with ease of serviceability and manufacture. Maximum use has been made were appropriate of in-house CNC machining resulting in some weight and time savings, most notably regarding the unsprung mass. Optimisation of the air-intake has resulted in a 15% engine performance improvement. The goal is for 100% reliability in the dynamic events.
