Very true. Everything should be done with an eye on how does our roster stack up against the best teams in the league. This isn’t a team just trying to make the postseason.

In fairness the reason that CMac had to make 10 in season trades or whatever it was. Is because he assembled a roster with awful goaltending. No depth beyond the top 6. And only 4 NHL caliber defenseman before the emergence of Malinski as a regular. Do you want me to run down the list of players he’s acquired that have either been complete busts or are nowhere near an improvement or comparable to what they’ve lost since 22?

I understand it’s not easy evaluating talent. But there’s only 32 of these jobs. And you should be better at it than most everybody in order to keep said job. He’s not. He’s blown through all of their tradable assets with little to show for it. He’s often scrambling to plug holes based off initial moves he made that were bad.

If he were the GM in a Canadian market. Or say places such as Philly, NY, etc. He’d most likely already have been canned. Or at least be getting lit up in the media. His handling of both the 2C situation since Kadri departed & his now bungling of 3C since Compher left is enough to question his acumen. Let alone all his other moves.

I’ve said it before. Why are certain people within the fanbase convinced he’s some great hockey mind? Dude was in the Blue Jackets organization toiling away for roughly 15 years. And even that sorry organization never looked at him as a GM. He came to Denver as AGM after the core had already been drafted & assembled. And rode the wave as part of a front office to a cup. It CAN’T be a coincidence that since he took over the big chair from Sakic. That the Avs have gone from fleecing teams (Lehky, Kadri, Burky, Toews). To now overpaying in nearly every deal. While also not improving their roster overall.

The Sabres actually gave me a buzz to be their GM. But I rebuked their offer.

All kidding aside why are you so bothered about me or anyone having strong opinions on certain players or the way they run the team? Isn’t that kind of what being a fan is & why we’re all here commenting in the first place?

Bingo, you can even add Florida to those matchups as well.

Mittlestadt had great stats with a bottom feeder in Buffalo. He’s a 6’1″ player in a 5’9″ body. If Necas is soft, Mittelstadt is jelly.

Perhaps you should call Necas and Burns “The Charmin Brothers,” Jeremy.

That’s a general statement that can be made for everyone at the top echelon of Kroenke ownership. Dinkster after dinksters drafted. Focus on “puck moving defensemen” that get hammered in the playoffs.

I don’t see it changing. A leopard can’t change it’s spots. This should be a make or break year for everyone within the Avs organization. But I’m not sure that is the same view that current ownership has. They stuck with Bednar when he clearly should have been bounced for repeated one round, playoff exits. CMac should be on shaky ground but we’ll see.

Yes, Girard is fine and he is actually now a bargain at $5M. As you point out, the team has plenty of puck movers and that is Girard’s strength. To his credit, his defense has been good, with the exception of being able to move people from in front of the net, but that is also a problem with most of the Avs defense.

The issue has always been, is his $5M salary better spent elsewhere? If the Avs had the cap space, they would have signed Lindgren. They could only sign Burns because his salary is only $1M plus bonuses. Because of rising salaries, replacing Girard with someone better or with 2 other players, is becoming harder. Look at Matt Grzelcyk. His projected salary is 3x$3.8M. He is 31, the same size as Girard, but is not as good offensively or defensively. Do you replace Girard for him? Mario Ferraro makes $3.25M. He could be a good replacement and paired with Burns, but San Jose reportedly wants something like a 1st round pick for him.

Hopefully, the Avs can sign a big 3rd pair LD to pair with Burns. Right now Merrill is the only reasonable UFA left. That would leave Malinski and Middleton as the 7th and 8th d-men. After seeing how the pairings are working and if there are injuries, one of the d-men may become expendable. Even though Manson signed an extension, it could be him. Girard’s future could depend on how Behrens plays this year.

I can’t wait for the kroenkes to finally wise up and fire this front office, the sooner they hire Jeremy the better. I mean he clearly knows better than them, he knows what moves they should make and shouldn’t. He also knows which ones are gonna work out and which ones aren’t before they even play. I’m surprised no other team has tried to scoop him up already.
