Team Profile

This years Viking is the 5. generation of racecars from SDU. Up until now the team have been using combustion engines, but this year the powerfull Yasa-750 electrical engine is used, which is powered by a battery pack of Nanophosphate lithium batteries.

The new drivetrain meant that a lot of the practices and technologies used in earlier cars, could not be used. That is why this years project called for a whole new level of innovation. SDU Vikings has always been very keen to develop their own solutions and avoid plug and play solutions. Some of the main objectives for the Viking V is a competitive car, smooth design, low weight and good handling. The 34 students from the University of Southern Denmark have been working very hard, to construct this powerfull little car. The team would like to thank all the sponsors and partners, who made it all possible. All the students are proud to present this brand new concept, and are looking forward to compete in this years Formula Student Competition.

The name SDU Vikings was originally chosen, to tie the team together. There have always been a large number of exchange students on the team. The vikings was some of the few things the foreign students knew about Denmark, so to define the identity of the team, the name SDU Vikings was chosen as a tribute to our northern ancestors. This keept the spirit high and the team set out to conquer the world….. of racing!

The fact that the Viking I looked like an old viking ship with its bodywork of wood, was actually just a funny coincidence.
