Team Profile
SU Racing has been attending Formula Student since 2004 and since then has improved with every car.
SU Racing 2012 is a brand new team made up of students from all year groups within the university.
The team is made up of students from many different subject areas within the university and is led by
a 3rd year BEng Automotive Engineering and two additional team captains heading up construction and
body design. As the team is from various subjects we can draw on different areas of experiences and
expertise which allows the team to focus on other areas of the competition.
The team’s new chassis design is build using a lightweight tubular steel space frame which is shorter and
lighter to previous years. To further lighten the car we have designed a more aero dynamic fibre glass
body and have also reverted back to a single cylinder engine to reduce weight but keep performance.
The team main focus is to address any reliability issues from previous cars and to achieve better
results within the completion overall this is achieved with the continued sponsorship and support from
DynoBike, Avon Tyres and AMAP.
