Formula Student -VIT University Team-Ojas

Team Profile

We are Team Ojas (Ojas- means Energy in Sanskrit) from VIT University, a university where building cars are a part of every mechanical student’s engineering journey. So with such a background with us, we decided to work something different and Hybrid technology was challenge for us. After the results of our business logic plan, we realized we are the only team on the competition to compete with a petrol-electric hybrid car. In India, the concept of hybrid cars is still nascent. So gwtting hold of information and parts was a bit of a problem.

We’ve had a lot of fun, because working on car for Formula Student is just not only about building a car but there is a lot more to it. Setting up a team, raising money, talking to different people was an essential part it. Building your own race car and driving it around is an awesome feeling.

We are 25 member team, we’ve split up into various sub-teams namely the Transmission, Engine, Vehicle Dynamics, Electrical and Marketing. The Vehicle Dynamics team is further split into brakes, suspension and steering. Manufacturing the roll cage is another area where we needed a team to ensure the welding is going well. Since we are an Indian team, we have to ship the car to UK. This is tedious procedure and we have dedicated team who takes care of this as well. We have a person who takes care of all the money and the accounts of the team. Every member of our team plays an important role and the car would be incomplete even if a member is missing out. This whole experience has thought us to learn to work with people and coordinate work and get things done collectively.

At this point I would like to mention our sponsors who have helped us get this far and making this event participation possible-

Sakthi Auto Components, Agni Motors, Indus Trust, ISMT Ltd, Titan Motorsport, Quaife, OBP Motorsport, Solidworks.

The Formula Student experience is something we’d recommend to anyone who’d like to get a taste of things work in the real world!

“If you are seeing us here today, then you are seeing something which was considered impossible by many, yesterday”
