The Chalmers FS team of 2011 is the 9th team since their first competition in 2002. The team consists of seven subgroups; body, frame, engine, electronics, unsprung mass, suspension and technical communications, who have worked together to build this years entry, CFS11. The common goal for the design has been “adjustability”, “stiffness” and “reliabity” and the team goal statement, which was set at the beginning of the project and has been at its core throughout, was set as: “Through teamwork and innovation, while learning from previous teams’ experiences, we will engineer an improved and well-tuned car to reach top ten at FSUK 2011.” The goals of each subgroup have been aligned and resulted in features such as its CrMo spaceframe with a torsional stiffness of 3300 Nm/deg, lightweight carbon fibre body, custom foam impact attenuator, paddle shift system, traction control system, carbon fibre rims and four identical cast aluminum uprights. The engine of the car is a Yamaha FZ-6 Fazer, 4-cyl, 600 cc with a wet sump system, modified oil pan and custom dual pick up system.
