This will be the fifth year that Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) has competed in Formula Student. MMU has come a long way since it started in the competition five years ago. This year there will be 2 teams entering from MMU. We are entering a Class 1 and Class 1A car. This year’s Class 1 entry has been designed and built by a team of 10 final year BEng students and 2 final year MSc students. This year’s car is a completely new design focused on minimising weight whilst trying to increase the torsional rigidity of the car. A Yamaha R6 engine has been used again in conjunction with a DTA engine management system to allow 3D fuel mapping and ignition advance to enhance boost and driveability. This year we have followed a rigorous design process and project management process to ensure that all issues are identified early on and to ensure that work is completed well in advance of the competition. This will allow us to carry out thorough testing of the 2011 car before we arrive at Silverstone
