Sure there would have been options for him in NHL.

He actually was settling in to be a good bottom 6 forward and I think it was a shock to get traded that early in his career. San Jose didn’t even offer him a contract which is weird. The Sharks can use all the help they can get. Most likely bottom dwellers for a long time.

The avs would be able to resign him cause Marchand was traded to panthers and then the bruins wanted to resign him but ultimately Marchand took the panthers instead

Perhaps Aarif will correct me if i’m wrong (I might be), but I don’t think the Avs can sign him until after next season since they traded him. Same reason we couldn’t make a new trade offer to Carolina when Rantanen wasn’t going to stick there–not allowed to sign him back after trading. I think it is a league rule to protect teams from player-team conspiracy.

I forgot about that. Him complaining about not getting enough ice time, PP time, etc in SJ. You’re right teams aren’t going to put up with a pouty unproven depth piece.

For real. Then all they needed was a 4th line

I think you’re spot on. He wasn’t going to a team where he wouldn’t have a real opportunity to play in the top six. That wasn’t going to happen in Colorado.

It probably didn’t help his cause that he called out his head coach in the Russian media last season and created a bunch of unnecessary drama with the Sharks. NHL front offices aren’t going to risk the headaches over a replacement level player.

We have many holes to fill, another missed opportunity.

With colton and drury.
