Deen’s Daily: 2025-26 Regular Season Schedule Coming Wednesday; Avs Complete Coaching Hires

The Avalanche made the third and final hire needed within the organization, this time an assistant in the AHL. Also, opening night was announced for October 7 and the remainder of the regular-season schedule will be released later this week.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — July 14.
Colorado Hockey Now
The Avs are one of six teams to open the NHL season on October 7. They’ll start on the road at Crypto.com Arena against the Los Angeles Kings. The rest of the 2025-26 regular season is set to be revealed at 11 a.m. MT on Wednesday.
We’re only 85 days away from hockey. Are you excited? I am!
The organization also made another coaching hire at the AHL level. Derek Army, the son of former Avs assistant coach Tim Army, is joining head coach Mark Letestu’s staff in Loveland.

Around The NHL
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins are also part of the triple header to start the upcoming NHL season.
New Jersey Hockey Now: We’re officially at the part of the offseason where free agents are entertaining offers from overseas. Nikolai Kovalenko is already on his way back to the KHL. But, a former Devils forward is also getting calls from teams in other leagues.
NYI Hockey Now: The No. 1 overall pick is probably going to sign an entry-level contract at some point this summer. But first, the Isles locked up the No. 16 overall pick to an ELC.
Florida Hockey Now: One of my favorite NHL traditions (albeit the Avs weren’t afforded this in 2022). The Stanley Cup champs open the following season and raise their banner pregame to kick off the new hockey year.
