Phoenix Racing has been competing in the UK Formula Student event for over 10 years, and this year makes a momentous return to the field with a petrol powered vehicle.
Coventry University’s 2016 team is a small, multicultural unit made up of the finest hand-picked young engineers from the Motorsport Engineering course (BEng). The team boasts members hailing from all different corners of the globe, from Norfolk, to Brazil – home of legendary F1 driver Bruno Senna. With experience in motorsport backgrounds ranging from Dakar Rally to Formula 1, the team is not short of the knowledge or expertise to produce a capable vehicle; among our drivers for this year is a world karting champion. The 24 person team is split into 6 sub-groups: Aerodynamics, Powertrain, Chassis, Un-sprung mass, Dynamics and Development. For this year the vehicle’s forward momentum is provided by a CBR 600RR engine, which powers the rear wheels via a 6 speed sequential transmission. The car has double wishbone suspension with pull rods on the front and push rods on the rear and features a composite floor construction.
