The team comprises of fourth year Automotive Design students and volunteers of all ages, primarily from a Mechanical Engineering discipline. The 2016 car, CR12, consists of an aluminium sandwich panel front monocoque and a rear steel space frame.
This concept has been developed since 2010 and now is the lightest design to date. Winter testing on a fully instrumented CR11 allowed the development of suspension, steering geometry, and aerodynamic devices, resulting in the changing to a pull rod rear suspension, multiple part being lightened and an aerodynamics package on the car for the first time. A Drexler Differential now features as part of our drivetrain, in addition to a new back plate that it mounts upon. CR11 was one of the fastest cars on track without an aerodynamic package during Europe 2015 competitions. With a new wiring loom, PDM and uprights to remove the areas CR11 was let down on, CR12 aims to challenge the top spots at the UK competition.
