A team competing for the fourth consecutive year, KU e-Racing, is one of the longest running teams utilising an electric powertrain in the UK.
With a team of students of different years and degrees, the team has a variety of experience which has gone into the development of the 2016 car, KUe4. Also known as ‘Moose’.
The approach of the team in the car development was to simplify the design and build. Moving from two motors to one, the team managed to shave over 50 kg off the previous car’s weight.
Utilising more in-house orientated manufacturing, the team is able to manufacture parts without external dependence, such as the majority of the components in the suspension assembly.
A new attempt for the team this year is to develop their own Impact Attenuator, the first step in the direction for many more new developments in the future.
