Team Profile:
Imperial Racing Green is a team of about 70 people from the Departments of Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic, and Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial London, and is led by five undergraduates from the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering departments.
In recent years, the focus of Racing Green has been on low/zero emissions vehicles, with the latest offering being a battery-electric vehicle known as EV2. Work on the current car was started in summer 2012, and it saw success at Formula Student 2013, winning Class 2. This has provided strong motivation to complete the project and compete strongly in Class 1 this year.
From the outset EV2 was designed to be as compact, lightweight and simple as possible. The chassis is a welded steel space frame comprised of only four bulkheads, minimising overall length, whilst power comes from a single EMRAX-228 electric motor, delivered to the rear wheels via a Limited Slip Differential.
A significant milestone was achieved on 5th February 2014, when the complete powertrain was successfully operated on a dyno for the first time. The team intends to begin track-testing in late May.

Regular driver Jason Thatcher developed something of an (undeserved) reputation for damaging the previous car, IC-06 during testing…
EV2 is the first Imperial vehicle to feature Aero
EV2 was dubbed the ‘whaleshark’ during manufacture, owing to it appearing to have a gaping mouth at the front, when the bodywork and Impact Attenuator are not attached.
