While we’re at it, I thought I’d mention that it’s nice to see Nicklas Backstrom returning to playing hockey. Backstrom, who was also a key piece of the Capitals’ 2018 Stanley Cup championship run, signed with Timra in the Swedish Hockey League. It’s the team he played for before making his way to the NHL, and it’ll be his first taste of pro hockey since playing just eight games for Washington in 2023-24.

Detroit Hockey Now: I watched Happy Gilmore 2 over the weekend with an open mind. I knew it wouldn’t be anything close to as good as the original, and it wasn’t. But, I will say, I still enjoyed it. The storyline was very tacky and some of the humor was way too goofy, but I loved the many ways it connected to the old film and brought back some series nostalgic memories in the process.

Anyway, two former Red Wings played minor roles in the movie.
