UoP Racing is one of the most unconventional teams in the electric class of Formula Student.

Their design mentality could be summarized as resource efficiency; using unconventional design and manufacturing methods to achieve the best performance/cost ratio. Reliability and sustainability are top priorities as well. Point sensitivity analysis indicated the areas of focus, where clever solutions and sound engineering practices were applied, allowing for the manufacturing of a 200kg car, including the aero package. A cut & fold aluminium monocoque chassis construction with readily available CNC routed panels was used to avoid complex moulds and labour-intensive layup, significantly cutting down on manufacturing complexity, time and cost, while offering comparable performance to moulded monocoques. Direct-acting dampers were chosen minimizing parts count, cost and weight, while a single electric motor is used in the powertrain, offering manageable cost and complexity. Finally, the power is transferred via steel tubular halfshafts instead of CF, for reduced inertia, cost and CO2 footprint.
