Swansea University Race Engineering (SURE) team. A growing team of now over 50 students from all backgrounds in engineering, science and business.
Our S16 car runs a continuous variable transmission (CVT), which has been retuned to incorporate three different engine maps and fitted with a new intake and exhaust system in particular a newly designed 3D printed plenum. It produces a power to weight ratio of 425 BHP/tonne and will cover 75 metres in less than 4s from a standing start due to the continually varying drive ratios. The transmission system has been adjusted based on track and testing data and driver feedback.
A lightweight honeycomb structure folded out of one piece assures maximum reliability at lower manufacturing costs compared to carbon fibre whilst a tubular rear space frame allows good access to the engine and ancillaries.
For S16 an aerodynamically optimised side pod configuration and diffuser made from carbon fibre is integrated.
The team has retained many of the features of its previous on board electronics package – a DTA S80 engine control unit, and Race Technology DL1 data logger.
SURE thanks Swansea University and our sponsors for their help, support, and funding over the last year.
