2016 Mobil 1 Sussex Racing class 1 is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of 9 Mechanical and 2 Automotive students.

Mobil 1 Sussex Racing has competed in Formula Student Class 1 since 2009. This year we aim to improve on our previous best of 28th place in 2015 with a smaller, lighter and more powerful car.

The major advancements for our car (SR16) come in the chassis and suspension area, where we have moved away from a full tubular space frame to a hybrid design incorporating front monocoque, using aluminium honeycomb sandwich panels. We’re also downsizing our wheel size from 13″ to 10″ in an effort to reduce our unsprung mass. We have also machined multiple parts from Aluminium 7075 rather than steel, for example the rear wheel assemblies and drive flanges, to further reduce our weight whilst maintaining performance through careful analysis.

We would like to thank our sponsors who have been fundamental in helping us produce SR16:
