Team Profile:
City Racing, the Formula Student Team of City University London, is made up of 25 3rd and 4th year Engineering students, and for the first time in City Racing’s history, the team this year contains Aeronautical Engineering Students. In 2012, the Team made a conscious effort to start again after disappointing results in previous year’s events. As a result, last year’s vehicle, the CR13, was by far the best vehicle produced by City Racing, which has allowed the team to now focus on refining the vehicle performance, rather than a complete vehicle redesign.
The Team is split into 5 subgroups, Chassis & Suspension, Powertrain, Drivetrain and Ergonomics, and this year, progress has been made in all of these areas. In the Chassis Subgroup, design effort has been centred on improving the driver cell and suspension geometry. Further to this, large weight reductions have been achieved, reducing the un-sprung mass of the vehicle. The addition of a Drexler differential and extensive Ricardo Wave analysis on the Powertrain has also brought about significant performance improvements. All of this design effort and hard work means that the CR14 will be the best vehicle in City Racing’s history.
