Team Profile:
The University of Liverpool Formula Student team consists of 31 third and fourth year mechanical engineering students and, this year, are showcasing their ninth race car, ULM009. The team has been improving every year with strengths in product design as well as technical ability and hopes to capitalise on this in the dynamic events for the 2014 season with focus on reliability, driveability, and weight reduction.
One of the key features of ULM009 is the rear subframe detachment methodology, which removes the powertrain and rear suspension at six fasteners. By designing this, the ease of modification and servicing makes the ULM009 chassis superior to monocoque alternatives.
Other key features include a new custom dry sump, carbon fibre composite plenum and Drexler differential to give a high performing powertrain as well as new integrated electronics for better engine efficiency. ULM009 also features a full aeropackage for additional downforce and balance to give drivers the confidence to push the car to its limit.
It is only with the support of ULM Racing’s sponsors that an overall top 15 result is possible, which is something the team will be striving to achieve in the summer of 2014.
