Queen’s Formula Racing (QFR) are competing with a team comprising of final and penultimate year mechanical engineering students at Queen’s University Belfast.
The 2016 car has benefited from a number of student research projects, focussed on improving the car in key areas. This has resulted in new design concepts in the chassis, uprights and suspension.
A major change is the introduction of 10″ wheels. This has required the team to entirely redesign the car’s unsprung mass from previous years. The team have also introduced a heavily revised suspension system. QFR continue to utilise carbon fibre to create a lightweight front monocoque, coupled to a tubular steel space frame rear chassis. The heart of the car is a tuned Yamaha R6 engine.
